Francis Scott Key Bridge Replacement – Feb. 2025
Baltimore, Maryland
Connelly sonic 3 1 5
As part of the preliminary geotechnical investigations for the replacement of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, our team successfully completed a critical subsurface exploration program along the Patapsco River in Baltimore, Maryland.

Five sonic borings were completed from both the north and south sides of the bridge alignment, with depths ranging from 120 to 200 feet. These borings were designed to characterize the subsurface profile and support foundation design for the new structure.

The team also installed two piezometers to monitor groundwater conditions—providing essential data for evaluating site stability, foundation behavior, and long-term performance of the bridge.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge serves as a vital transportation corridor for the Baltimore region, and this work represents a foundational step in its future reconstruction. By delivering high-quality geotechnical services, our firm is proud to support the development of resilient infrastructure that connects communities and supports economic growth throughout the state.
